Curricula Descriptions

Full-time program

During the first semester of Johnson’s Two-Year MBA, students complete the bulk of the core curriculum, which emphasizes analytics, critical thinking, and leadership. This prepares them to take part in an immersion-learning experience during their second semester and deep dive into an area of interest. Students go on site visits, work on real cases, and solve problems in actual business settings while being coached by faculty and leading business practitioners. After their first year, students enter the summer with applied knowledge that enables them to excel in their internships. In their second year, students have the flexibility to take an intensive (a half-semester suite of cutting-edge courses that afford an in-depth exploration of the fields of digital marketing or fintech) at Cornell Tech in New York City and/or electives at Cornell University’s other top-ranked schools in Ithaca. Our core curriculum across all three full-time MBA programs includes accounting, critical & strategic thinking, data analytics, finance, leadership, marketing, microeconomics, operations, and strategy. Ithaca One-Year MBA program students are free to select electives after completing the core curriculum. Cornell Tech One-Year MBA students participate in studio curriculum after completing the core curriculum.

Executive program

Cornell’s Executive MBA Metro NY program, located at the Tata Innovation Center on the Cornell Tech campus in New York City, provides high-achieving professionals with the essential C-Suite tools and advanced analytical skills to propel their abilities in in leadership, general management, innovation and global business to the next level. Through integrated coursework in areas such as Finance, Marketing, Data & Analytics, Entrepreneurship & Strategy, and Global Business, students develop and enhance key competencies critical for today’s business leaders.. A broad spectrum of elective courses augments the experience, allowing for customization and deep-dives into relevant, topical subject areas. In addition to sessions held in the city on alternative weekends over a 22-month period, students attend four week-long immersive residential sessions at the Cornell Ithaca campus, and complete a study week abroad. Executive MBA Metro NY students have the added advantage of applying what they learn on class weekends immediately to their professional environments, making real time impact.

Specialty master's program

Johnson's Master in Professional Studies in Management, delivers the full disciplinary range of a one-year degree in business, at a graduate pace. The program is STEM certified, and best suited for undergraduates with a business minor or applicants who are early in their careers looking to gain core business skills in order to advance. As part of the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business, students in the MPS in Management program learn from the best and have access to top-quality resources. In addition to the program’s core courses, students have the option to take elective classes from any of the three schools, which provides a depth and breadth offered by no other program. Finally, as part of the MPS in Management program, students complete three industry practicums that consist of live case studies and site visits. Johnson also offers an Accounting Specialization with the MPS in Management. This program's combination of core and elective courses allow students to combine a rigorous technical accounting core with a range of graduate electives from the wider College. The Accounting Specialization offers a flexible curriculum designed to prepare students for public practice in auditing, taxation, consulting, corporate accounting, banking, and public/not-for-profit accounting. Students work closely with a faculty advisor to direct their studies toward their career goals while satisfying the educational licensing requirements to become a Certified Public Accountant.
