Factors and Procedures Used in Admissions

Full-time MBA program

Admission to the (Full Time) Global MBA is based on undergraduate performance, letters of recommendation, and personal interview. This is a lock-step cohort program with admission for fall term (also spring term starting in January 2019).

Executive MBA program

Admission to the Executive MBA is based on work experiences (minimum 5 years required), undergraduate degree and GPA, professional recommendations, and personal interview. This is a lock-step cohort program with admission for fall term only.

Part-time MBA program

Admission to self-paced Evening MBA is based on review of work experiences and community activities, undergraduate degree and GPA, GMAT score (case-by-case consideration for GMAT waiver), and professional recommendations. Applications are reviewed for fall, summer, and spring admission. The One-Year MBA (spring admission) and the Chicago MBA (fall admission) are 12-month accelerated, lock-step cohort evening program formats. GMAT is not required for admission to the One-Year & Chicago MBA formats.

Curricula Descriptions

Full-time program

The Global MBA is a full-time program offered at the NIU DeKalb campus. The 1-year curriculum with a global perspective offers a double degree: an MBA at NIU and MS-International Management or certificate with partner schools in Europe. All students work with a professional career coach throughout the program and participate in a mentoring program and career preparation/job search workshops.

Executive program

Executive MBA includes the basic business tools and managerial accounting controls, strategic marketing, building an effective organizational, operations management, leadership development, financial analysis, and overall policy analysis. Beyond the core, students complete elective courses in leadership development, an international experience, and a capstone consulting project.

Part-time program

Evening MBA students are required to complete a minimum of 10 courses and up to 19 courses depending on undergraduate degree; elective/certificate tracks include General Management, Entrepreneurship, Finance, International Business, Leadership, Management Information Systems, and Strategic Marketing; with short- term study abroad options. MBA/JD also available for Evening MBA students. The One-Year MBA and the Chicago MBA require 10 courses (30 credit hours) including a short-term study abroad experience.
