Description:During this exciting two-week summer residential program, students will have an opportunity to experience “hands-on” learning in small groups. Students will create and test parachutes and helicopters in order to analyze data, make predictions, test conjectures, draw conclusions and make decisions. Students will also be taught how to use computer software to help represent and analyze the data. Topic in both descriptive and inferential statistics will be explored during the process of solving these engineering-based optimization and variation problems. A one-day field trip is planned to provide students the opportunity to see mathematics and statistics in use in the real world.
